Audiobook Studio

Transform your manuscripts into professional audiobooks using AI-powered text-to-speech.

What is Audiobook Studio?

Audiobook Studio is a web-based tool for creating audiobooks from text manuscripts. It uses ElevenLabs text-to-speech to generate natural-sounding audio, with support for multiple characters, voice assignment, in-browser audio editing, and ACX-compliant export.

Quick Start

Follow these five steps to create your first audiobook:

Upload your manuscript

Create a new project and drag-and-drop your manuscript file (.md, .txt, or .pdf). Chapters are automatically detected from your document structure.

Detect characters

Use the AI-powered character detection to identify speakers in your text. Characters are assigned to dialogue segments automatically.

Assign voices

Open the Voices panel and assign an ElevenLabs voice to each character. Preview voices before committing.

Generate audio

Hit Generate All to produce audio for every segment. Track progress in real-time and re-generate individual segments as needed.

Export

Export your audiobook as a single file, per-chapter files, or both. Enable ACX compliance mode for audiobook distribution platforms.

Bring Your Own Keys

Audiobook Studio puts you in control of your costs. Instead of charging a markup on AI usage, we use a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model — you connect your own API keys and pay providers directly at their published rates. No hidden fees, no per-minute surcharges, no surprises on your bill.

  • ElevenLabs API key — Powers the text-to-speech engine. Choose any plan that fits your project size, from the free tier for experimentation to professional plans for full-length audiobooks.
  • LLM API key — Powers intelligent character detection. Bring a key from your preferred provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or others) and the AI will automatically identify speakers and dialogue in your manuscript.
You can add your API keys in Settings (⚙) in the top bar. Each user manages their own keys — they are never shared between accounts.

Plans

Audiobook Studio offers a free plan with a 2-project limit and full functionality except exporting. Upgrade individual projects to the paid plan via coupon or purchase to unlock export. See Plans & Pricing for details.

System Requirements

  • A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari)
  • An ElevenLabs API key for text-to-speech generation
  • An LLM API key for AI-powered character detection (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.)
  • Recommended: Desktop browser for the best editing experience
